I installed nightly since I read about a Brave Leo, a chat AI by brave (article here for anyone interested: https://brave.com/leo-release/) but it is only available on the nightly channel, so i installed that and as soon as brave nightly opened i got a notice about an extension that was automatically added by google, so i clicked it and this appeared. How did this happen? Is it a setting? Can things on my pc just add extensions to browsers? If so that seems like a security and privacy issue. Is it just becuase it is chromium based so google can do what they want?

you have google drive on your system, software installers (like the one you installed google drive with) can load extensions into your browser. the idea here is that some software ties into your browser (for example, some E-banking security software)

I had google stuff on my PC before, but when i search for it now i cant find it so i think i uninstalled it. Also this didnt happen when i installed brave stable/main a couple months ago, so maybe it a nightly thing?

maybe it's some leftover garbage somewhere from a plugin that was prepared in some location that nightly accesses but stable doesnt. either way, that's probably how it ended up there.
