Best CPU without need go switch

I have msi b540 gaming plus max motherboard. Currently have a 3600X whats the best cpu that I can get for it without needing to switch motherboards?

you mean b550 or b450? with both the best gaming CPU would be the 5800X3d, but it may depend on your GPU if that may be an overkill

For gaming it'll be 5800X3D but you'll have to update your bios. For productivity it'll be the 5950x but you'll still need to update your bios if either way if your mobo is a b550 or b450

Even if it's b550 they wouldn't have updated the bios so it won't make much of a difference. They will have to update the bios anyways

It's for gaming. My 3600X is starting to struggle at 4k.

Then get the 5800X3D for sure. But be sure to update your bios to the latest non-beta version. Is your mobo b450 or b550 btw?

B450 it's the msi b450 gaming plus max.

i mean that's a given, but i just wanted to know which board he has just to be sure that there is no mix-up

4K? Consider the Ryzen 7 5700X. It doesn't need better cooling than the 3600X. And it's way cheaper than the 5800X3D. On 4K the difference is minimal.
