I would NOT run a graphics card using the new 12VHPWR connector when it has been proven that poor insertion / contact of pins inside the connecter is the cause of meltdown and if the latch/clip is broken, the possibility for the cables to get loose is even higher. 

I understand the frustration and you don't wanna miss your GPU for weeks but I really, really would RMA.

What would I tell 'em?

I guess I would just be honest and tell them that when installing the graphics card and inserting the power cable, the latch just broke off with no force at all, like something was wrong from the factory. 

 

I don't see how else you could spin this in your favor. But maybe some other members here have some ideas.
