Hello there, I am posting this here as well. I have already posted this to the Discord server, but I'm casting a wider net.

I have gotten a new internet connection, that being fiber. With this new connection comes two new bits of hardware, as you see below.

The issue is that the modem only has one port for ethernet. Meanwhile, the router has a port for 2.4, and the other, I assume, is 5; right now, because smart devices use the 2.4 band for communication, I have it plugged into that one. Would a simple splitter be acceptable for getting both 2.4 and 5 up and running? I do plan to hardline it to my PC, so I'd have to get a splitter or a switch even to split it off to my PC, but this is also for the rest of the family. Or would buying a better router be in the cards for a simpler solution? The old one I had did 2.5 and 5 with the ethernet plugged into a single port

I think you are confused.

The leftmost port of your Eero (the one that the yellow cable is currently plugged into in the second pic) is labelled 2.5, indicating it supports a 2.5Gbps wired connection. The right side is maximum 1Gbps.

This is not related to the Eero wireless access point broadcasting a 2.4GHz or 5GHz signal.

Your wired setup is fine. Just use the Eero app to setup your WiFi access point and you're good to go.

Alrighty, thank you for that information, but if you're able to, what would your thoughts be on getting a splitter to connect it to my PC?

Is that something that is possible to do?

You can just plug your PC into the rightmost port. If you need to attach more devices you'll need an ethernet switch.

I will not assume anything, so apologies for yet another Q: The current plan I have is 1 gig, but there is a plan for 2 gigs which the family might get. I assume that the 2.5 port is both able to accept 2.5 as well as out-putting 2.5.

You would probably want to get an ethernet switch or a wireless router with at least a 2.5 gbps ethernet port - you connect the switch to the nokia fiber-ethernet thing, then you connect your access point to the switch/wireless router, and computers also to the switch/wireless router.

Note that if the computers in your house have 1 gbps ethernet cards, or if the switch has 1 gbps ethernet ports  then that's the maximum they'll be able to achieve, even if your ISP gives you 2.5 gbps ... the weakest link in the chain will cause the whle chain to run at the slower speed every point in the chain can handle.

Oh, no need to worry about that. The motherboard I have is Aorus X670E which has a 10-gig port on it.
