Building first high powered Rig

Go to solution Solved by Prömetheus,

Will the LGA 1150 be able to support AutoCAD renderings, Video editing etc? Just curious

Sure it will, also i7 4770k will be perfect for rendering thanks to hyperthreading. Also if you only do light editing or rendering, you don't need the i7 4820K

Current Build Plan: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/3KOHL

  1. Budget

To begin with I am planning on building the PC side of things even though i have brought the monitor est. budget is approx $2500-2700 AUD

     2.  Aim

This computer is going to be used for a wide variety of uses ranging from playing games (and potenitally streaming on Twitch) to using rendering programs such as AutoCAD, Revit and Cinema 4D so i am looking for an overall performance improvement (my current laptop takes 48 hours to render a house in revit).

     3.  Montiors

The aim is to run two monitors with the ability to maybe run more in the future if required.

     4.  Peripherals

As you can see in the build list i have attached the peripherals that I will need and I have already purchased Windows.

     5. Why are you upgrading?

for all my life I have had store brought laptops and always wanted more from a computer I have had my current laptop for about 5 years now so it needs to be gracefully retired and replaced, while i already have the list kind of organized im looking for feedback on it and wether i should hold off for the new LGA 2011 cpu's or downgrade to the LGA 1150 CPU and go with something such as a Z97 WS from Asus.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Koly

Seems ok to me.

I'm in US, and I know the currency difference, but seeing a 760 in a 2,000 dollar build still makes me cry a little (or a lot)

Two questions: 1. then what's the real purpouse of lga 2011? is its eventally going to be superceeded by a new cpu?

2. with the formentioned build http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/3KUco would you reccomend going for the z97 board instead?

So you already purchase the SSD,Case, windows and monitor?

1. The purpose of LGA 2011 is to support Ivy Bridge E that is a workstation grade cpu. Also if you only do light editing an i7 4770K is good enough :D

2. I do recommend the Z97 for future upgrades :D

To answer 1. With the CPU you have selected, not much over a 4770K. Both will be pretty similar in performance, and at the very least you will be doing it for a couple hundred less. 2011 shows its worth when bumping to the 6-core CPUs like the 4930K, and when you're running quad-SLI (aka, add another $4k to your cost).

heres a review of that 2011 CPU compared to others, doing video rendering-type stuff: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/core_i7_4820k_processor_review,11.html

Based on these banchmarks, the 4770K will outperform the 4820K in both rendering and gaming.

OP, I would definitely look at the programs you plan on using and see how much GPU acceleration they use, to choose between 780/780ti/780ti6GB/titan - Them cuda cores!

CUDA cores definitely useful for AutoCad 2015 and quadro is very expensive :(

So i have taken some of the changes into account but i have decided to go with Asus's 97-pro (out of personal prefference)

I would appreciate any final comments and thank you all for helping me out :)

if you do a lot of cad editing go with a xeon CPU they typicaly have more cache than their core i7 counterparts and whis will be very helpful for autocad and other drawing softwares,

i will suggest something that will be better for gaming and cad/editing/rendering for even less money, hold on.

This will suit all your gaming and cad/editing/rendering needs for the years to come, this CPU is the same has the core i7-4770 but without integrated GPU (you won't need it you use a dedicated graphics card) it is also cheaper and will work better with cad softwares...for gaming it's the same as the i7-4770 so it performs exactly the same, only cost less...GPU GTX 780 3gb can't go wrong with that either, will run any games maxed out at 1080p.

You really don't need an H100i water cooler for these CPU's, i included a MUCH more quiet (silent) noctua extreme quality air cooler, much more reliable too..

You won't overclock these CPU the xeons are locked and you really don't need to overclock them either they already performs really well at stock clock and are way overkill for your needs already, so a good quality microATX board on the LGA1150 socket is all you need realy, you could go ATX and z87 board if you plan on going SLI down the road but if you plan on doing this you will need the 750w version of this PSU.
