Anything bad about turning ERP off in BIOS? (It causes the need for several power button presses to boot)

lafrente

When ERP is enabled, I have to hit power button like 4-5 or more times to get the PC to boot. No issue with it disabled.

I understand it "saves power", but my PC has nothing on once its shut down. No lights etc.

Can someone explain what's causing this? I don't like starting my PC like an old car, like pumping the throttle while turning the key. Feels almost like I need to fill it with electricity by pumping the power button when ERP is on.

BTW, shorting the pins works fine with ERP enabled. (I don't have to keep retouching the pins, half a second hold boots)

Maybe you have Fast Startup enabled (hybrid sleep / hibernation)?

Try disabling it using

powercfg -h off

The power button does exactly this.

Could be that your button is bad and for some reason ERP setting effects how the mainboard denounces.

Easy fix: Keep ERP off. Some settings are only accessible by this preset on some mainboard. Power consumption might be 10W higher or IDLE.

If shorting the pins works then it suggest you aren't holding the button down long enough.
