Nvme Help!

I was after a little guidance! I have bought a new 980 pro nvme and am planning on installing it as my main OS drive. I have another barracuda Gen. 3nvme which I'd also like to hold onto. Question is: can I mount them above each other in my Gigabyte GA X570 Gaming X Motherboard as I have two slots vertically. Or should I move my old Nvme download a gen 3 m.2 and put the 980pro in the top slot alone?

 

Obviously my main concern is that vertically mounting  prevents the bottom drive from cooling... and I'm unsure if the two slots are designed to have both slots filled.

I'd go with the fastest NVMe card in the slot closest to the CPU, then I'd install the OS there. Unless specific other necessity.

CPU cooler will provide plenty of airflow

Where?  Can’t see it. On spec it only have 2 x M.2 slots
first M.2 above the first PCIe x16, and second M.2  PCIe 3.0 below the second PCIe x16 slot.

In the top slot there are two connections for nvme's. One that runs on chipset lanes and the one further out from the board is from CPU lanes. I check the manual! So the board can cater to three nvme's at once. The lower third slot knocks out some of the SATA ports if used.
