Im about to buy a new computer, and I was wondering if a i5 4670k is compatible with the Z97 Maximus Gene VII.

Yes, Haswell chips work with Z97 boards, Haswell refresh one don't work with Z87.

the haswell refreshed do work on z87 boards but the z87 boards will need a bios update, at least that is the case with gigabyte, msi and asus, i cant say for the other companies.

some boards might be able to run them. some z68 and p67 boards can run ivy cpu's.

It seems like the VRM is being taken off the die and being put back onto the mobo with Z97 and Devil's Canyon. So the refresh should work with Z87, but Devil's Canyon will only work with Z97
