Go to solution Solved by ImWilly,

It's a really old laptop, glad that it still works

Before upgrade, it would be best to check what kind of RAM installed on your laptop first so that you can decide whether to add unused slot or replace all RAM

So if it's 8GB on one slot, you can just buy one more 8GB RAM stick. But if it's not, you may just buy 2 sticks of 8GB (total 16GB)

You can upgrade your RAM up to 16GB DDR3L SO-DIMM 1600mhz.

Agree, as shown at Intel website, you should find RAM with specs as above

But frankly, upgrading to 16GB on a decade old laptop is kinda interesting.

I own a very own laptop (i5 gen3) since the booting and opening anything is slow, I just use it to open Chrome to play YouTube, and it doesn't really require 16GB of RAM

i have a hp probook 450 g2 laptop and I was wondering if I can upgrade my ram and what ram should I upgrade to? i heard from a friend that I should upgrade to a 8GB DDR3L-1600 PC3-12800 1024x64 CL11 1.35V 204 Pin SODIMM and i this is the correct one i should upgrade to?

Well, it may be crucial (pun intended, sorry for the bad pun) to upgrade it, but depending on what app you're using, it may be at least worth a shot

Which means, if you decided to upgrade it, you need to buy 2 sticks of 8GB RAM with spec DDR3L 1600MHz (SO-DIMM)

My System: Ryzen 7800X3D // Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX // 32GB 6000MHz DDR5 Silicon Power Zenith CL30 // Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT OC with mod heatsink on the metal plate  // Phanteks P300A  // Gigabyte Aorus GEN4 7300 PCIE 4.0 NVME // Kingston NV2 Gen4 PCIE 4.0 NVME //

Seasonic Focus GX-850 Fully Modular // Thermalright Frost Spirit 140 Black V3 // Phanteks M25 140mm // Display: Bezel 32MD845 V2 QHD // Keychron K8 Pro (Mod: Gateron black box ink; Tape mode on PCB and Keycaps) // Razer Cobra Wired Mouse // Audio Technica M50X Headphone // Sennheiser HD 650 // Genius SP-HF180 USB Speaker //

And Laptop Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45 for mobility

it is interesting as it takes about 15 sec to boot up

A wild guess here, either you're using Windows XP, Linux or ChromeOS

But it's good to keep utilizing old tech even if it's just to do some simple task

That is super cool

My best guess, your uncle change the HDD storage memory to SSD SATA (and set it as main for Windows OS boot)

Depending on the laptop design, it's possible replace the CD drive module (yes, laptop used to have that, and yes I am that old) to fit in SSD SATA because it uses the very same cable slot type (SATA)

Anyway, good luck on your RAM upgrade, it seems 16GB upgrade is really worth a shot

Adding an SSD to those old laptops makes all the difference in the world. OP might already have one, some but not all laptops would have come with one at that age.
