HDMI brighter than DP

So, I bought a used monitor from MSI. It's max specs are 1440p and 165 Hz. At first, I plugged in a HDMI 8k cable; which got me to 1440p and 144Hz. Recently, I changed to DP 2.0 and now I am getting 1440p at 165Hz. The issue is that HDMI was significantly brighter. With DP everything looks sort of muted and when I am not on dark mode, there is white shadow around the black letters. I haven't changed any of the monitor settings. I was wondering 3 things, first is there any way to make my display brighter and remove the shadow? Secondly, I have 3 DP ports and 1 HDMI port on my 3070, does it matter which DP port I use. Thirdly, when I turn my monitor on, HDMI shows up on the bottom right corner, same time as the MSI logo on the center of the screen, does that mean HDMI is better supported?

I'd make sure its not enabling HDR in Windows using DP and/or changing the profile on the monitor. Both I'd verify on the monitor's OSD and validate HDR isn't enabling by default in Windows.

 

DP is better than HDMI in the context of computers and gaming, to answer that question.

The logo is simply there to show the monitor supports HDMI. Might also be a requirement by the HDMI license to show it on startup, not sure.

 

Using a different port shouldn't change the monitor's brightness. Make sure some other option (like higher refresh rate or VRR) doesn't limit the monitor's max brightness.

Did you try 144hz in DP, the screen dimmer might due to 165hz as certain monitor the highest hz is overclock mode which compromise something to archive it, for example reduce color bit or screen brightness.

That was it, as soon as I disabled HDR on Windows Settings, it worked. Do you know why HDR was making that? I thought that HDR is always better, in all the videos they look if the display supports HDR right?

HDR in Windows still sucks. I've tried it here and there over the last ~3 years on compatible monitors and I just keep it disabled.

Not a requirement, but the license is more expensive if you don't want to put HDMI logos everywhere.
