Black screen after installing new ram?

VincentVolaju

My PC is about 3 years old, I used a B450 mobo with a Ryzen5 in it, with 16gb vengeance ram in it.

Recently I'm playing EFT and the new map streets suggests more ram for better performance.

So I picked up a 2x 16gb ram kit, same type, corsair vengeance.

I installed it without issue, booted the PC up and the screen just stays black. I thought maybe I installed it wrong, but doubled checked and both ram clicked in correctly. I thought maybe something happened to gpu or the hdmi cable was bad, so I put the old ram back in to see if it booted fine. And it did.

So it seems with the old ram, the PC boots up fine and makes it to the windows login screen. But when I put the 32gb in, the screen just stays black.

Any ideas?

did you check the bios? I had the same issue and literally just pulled the cmos battery out for a few minutes and then put it back in and it worked completely fine. had to go back into bios tho to enable xmp and use the full speed of the ram. for you it might be called expo or docp

never overclock your underwear

Latest Bios?

Did I get it right; you did not add the new RAM, you replace the old?

You may need to update the BIOS or change the RAM settings for the new RAM to work properly. Also, you may need to use only the new or the old RAM. Some systems do not play nice with mix and match.

You guys were right. My BIOS was a 2019 version lol. So after updating that, as well as other drivers like chipset etc. I reinstalled the ram and it worked fine.

I had to go back into bios to change it to 3200mhz, but everything is working well now.

Thanks guys!
