A very unusual problem

I'm working at a computer repair company and we have a customer with a very weird problem: He's used to windows 3.1 wich he only used for a music program wich he printed music sheets with, that's all he used it for. But now he got his wife's old pc wich runs xp (don't worry it's not connected to the internet) so we installed a virtual windows 3.1 machine on it but we couldn't get the printer wich is connected to a parallel port to work. And we already tried to convince him to use an alternative in XP but he doesn't want to.. Any of you guys know a solution for this problem? The software is called musicprinterplus 4.1 and it runs on virtualbox 4.3.10. Thanks!

I am not sure if this is a real post, but i think it would help to post the hardware that is being used and is the printer working outside of the virtual machine.

from what i understand u need to make the virtual box recognize the parallel port

I tired to see if i could come up with the same issue as you with this old printer, but besides having to uninstall the port in xp i had no issue. Edit... On second attempt printer unresponsive. seem to be a conflict on port between the vm and windows.

so the printer did just work on a virtual windows 3.1 machine on parallel?

Yes, after i was able to get xp to not keep the port busy  worked only on first print.

Okay, I tried everything but it didn't work, I discussed it with my colleague  and we decided that we won't do anything about it and just let the user get a new program, feels bad to not find a solution but thanks for the effort!

nope didnt work either..
