RAM issues when turning on computer

Hi all,

Recently, I replaced the RAM in my computer because I was only running one stick (due to initial hardware issues last year).

I don't recall the official naming of the slots for the RAM, but I will be referring to it as (1 -> 4) from left to right.

Specs

Motherboard: ROG STRIX Z690-G GAMING WIFI

Processor: Intel Core i7 12700K

Storage 1: Samsung SSD 980 PRO 2TB
Storage 2: Samsung SSD 980 PRO 2TB

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB Series (Intel XMP) 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin SDRAM DDR5 6400 CL32-39-39-102 1.40V Dual Channel Desktop Memory F5-6400J3239G32GX2-TZ5RK

What have I tried?

  1. ✅ Different RAM (2 sticks) - in slot 2 and slot 4 (both worked with the other ram as single config in each of those slots as well)
  2. ✅ The listed new RAM (2 x 32gb) tried one in slot 2 and slot 4 (and the other as well) and each configuration worked.
  3. ⛔ The new ram in both slots 2 and 4 at the same time causes an orange light to light up, takes me into an error screen that says it has safe booted. Once there, I can go into BIOS and make it to Windows successfully
    1. Same interactions with various XMP configurations (and none)

What I need help with
What are some other debugging methods + things that I can try to better configure or resolve this problem?

Thanks! First post, so please let me know if there's something I can do better in following guidelines.

Either Slots 1 and 3, or 2and 4 is fine.

Does the system P.O.S.T. and eventually boot into the OS properly if you have XMP disabled?

What version BIOS are you using?

If it is quite a bit out-of-date, update it -- usually new BIOS improve Memory stability and support.

DDR5 has been finnicky for a while on both Intel and AMD, "growing pains."

(i.e. a new BIOS every month or two...for a while)

@ItsDestini@-rascal-

Thank you for responding - Sorry, I had been too busy with work so I haven't had a chance to test this! It's been a while so I definitely forgot about the DDR5 issues and upgrading of BIOS to test. This has been resolved after updating to the latest BIOS and that seems to get everything in place. Thank you both again for the time on answering. Very much appreciated!
