Booting from windows hard drive

I acquired an all-in-one computer from a friend a couple of years back, and since then, took out the hard drive, and threw out the rest (The screen was broken). I have built a PC from scrap parts and want to use the drive to boot from. It did not even show up in the boot menu. I tried to put it in my own computer to boot from, it did not even show up. I then tried to just get the key, but all the software is all paid. There aren't any important files on the hard drive. Thanks in advance.
