AMD Cuts Radeon R9 280 to $249

Prodigydeadeye

This might actually make me switch over to the red team for once

if you bought nvidia for no solid reason back when there was no mining craze you would be called fanboy :D

Thanks for the info. Very strong comeback for AMD. Due to inflated prices, AMD has been out of the mid to high end GPU ring for a while now. Good to finally see their comback.

Since when did they leave? They've slotted cards at critical price points.

$200 = R9 270X

$250 = GTX 760

$300 = R9 280X

$350 = GTX 770

$400 = R9 290

If you're talking about those dastardly miners however... well, I get your drift. They savagely inflated the price of the R9 28x and 29x lineup for a few months.

Anyway, the R9 280 needed the price cut tbh. It was like $20 to $30 cheaper than the R9 280X yet much slower because the 280X isn't just a higher clocked version of the 280.

15.6" Clevo W650SJ: Intel Core i7-4810MQ / Geforce GTX 850M / 1 x 8 GB DDR3-1600 / Hitachi 1 TB 7200 rpm
14" Lenovo Y460: Intel Core i5-520M / Mobility Radeon HD 5650 / 2 x 4 GB DDR3-1333 / Hitachi 500 GB 5400 rpm

Since when did they leave? the R9 280x was sitting at ~$400 dollars for months and higher end cards were also highly inflated due to card shortages. You answered your question in your response.

I should be studying.

Where I live, the price remained the same. :) It seems the inflation caused by the mining was only apparent in the US.

I've had Nvidia forever since the only game I played was the old Flight Sim X. It worked better with Nvidia cards.
