PCIE GPU Tab Issue

Go to solution Solved by CommanderAlex,

Make sure the screws that hold the graphics card in are removed and any display cables are unplugged. You may have to push inward on the PCIe slot tab again and hold up/pull the graphics card to remove the card. I've had to do this many times, especially on big graphics cards.

That is indeed the PCIe tab circled in your photo.

Hoping this is the right place to post this but I've been trying to remove my GPU (MSI GTX 1660 Super) from my motherboard (ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0) to get to the SATA connectors to install a new SSD. When I took a look at the PCIE slot to remove the GPU, I saw this thing which I thought was the tab to push down and remove the GPU. However, I tried pushing down on it with some force (not too much as I was afraid of breaking something) and it didn't seem to do anything. Now I'm confused as to whether this actually is the tab to remove the GPU, if it's something else entirely or if something else going on is preventing me from removing the GPU. Any help appreciated!

It's one of those tabs that you need to pull to the side (where your ssd located) in this case down and up away from gpu.

I might be wrong but try it carefully

I was wrong. Try a bit harder bc the tab latches by those teeth as in picture

Those PCIe locking tabs can be a real B to undo sometimes. The way I get around that is giving the card a bit of wiggle when pushing down on that tab since they can also be locked in from the rear of the PCIe I/O bracket (where the display outputs are). The other variable being the screw that holds it in from that I/O bracket.

Looks like you figured it out though.

My rule of thumb with it is simple: If it crunches it goes out.

Thanks for all the responses, I had to apply a bit more force to the tab (seeing as before I was scared of breaking something) and pull the card out slightly at the same time and it came out perfectly fine, so thank you all!
