Hi,

I was wondering if the community could help me out with the said tittle issue. The problem that I am having is my pc sometime restarts all by itself. Whether it’s on load or idle doesn’t matter. Currently I am not using an external GPU. So load factor is not the issue. Tried with bios default setting. Still doesn’t work. It seems like the restart happens in waves. Like every 3-4 weeks there is a wave of restart. It gets fixed all by itself. Checked temperature all are ok. Motherboard rgb led keeps on even while restarting.
Full spec:

gigabyte z370 gaming 5

i7 8700k

16 GB ddr4 Corsair ram x 2

samsung 970 eco m.2 x2

samsung 870qvo

corsair ax1200i( I used to have RTX 3080. Now will upgrade to RTX 4090)

Does it insta black screen when restarting or does it show windows shutting down screen?

it is pretty old so i suspect it might be time to deep clean that board by dunking in water (after proper discharge)

Instant black screen. No display. No blue screen. Cpu fan, case fan power off. But only has motherboard rgb led.

Yes

In that case board definitely needs a clean

Take out mobo

Take off heatsinks and cmos battery

Press powerbutton + clr cmos for 2 mins

rinse in water making sure everything gets soaked

Dunk in a bucket of water for an hour or 2 (no detergent)

Shake off as much water as you can

Wait a day or 2 to dry (depends on climate)

Apparently you can use a dishwasher but dont have one so idk, as for ultrasonic cleaner if you have one itll be the exact same as the above just that you are dunking the mobo into an unltrasonic cleaner instead of a bucket

Ive actually had an issue like this just randomly happen to me on my p6t deluxe v2 and z77 extreme4, the z77 seems unsavable but a dunk innwater later and my p6t deluxe v2 is just fine

Can we be more realistic please. I am trying to point out which component is to blame.

Yes i am being realistic

It is most definitely the mobo

How do i know? I have fixed multiple boards with this random shutdown issue just by doing the method above, and all except 1 have been successful (theres one particularly stubborn china h61)

So as per your information if I change the motherboard instead your soak I. Water theory. It should work just fine.

theres literally no risk to dunking in water when youve properly discharged the board

Already done it tens of times by now and almost all the boards that have annoying random shutdown issues have been cured

If youd like to waste money on an old platform by swapping board go ahead, but you might aswell upgrade to a used b3/4/550 and a used 5600(x)/5800x if you are gonna mobo swap, theres problably a few idiots thatd buy an 8700k for 100-150$
