I have a new AM5 build giving me issues.

I bought an open box Asus tuf b650 plus wifi

7700x

32 gb corsiar vengance 6000 mhz cl 30

as rock phantom gaming rtx 7900xtx

corsair 100w power supply

I cannot enable expo without windows crashing.

Games crash within 5-10 minutes

GPU temps are 83, 95 hotspot 105-107 junction in those few minutes of gaming.

Do I have multiple issues?

should I just replace the open box motherboard with something else, or does the gpu need to go back too?

What is expo?   Is that the xmp / docp profile?

Is system stable without expo enabled? Because AM5+DDR5 Expo+Asus = bad time. I know from personal experience sadly ( check my system below ) .

GPU : RTX 3070 Gaming X TRIO | CPU : Ryzen 5 7600 \ COOLER : Deepcool AK620 | MOBO : ASUS TUF Gaming B650 Plus | RAM : Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 16GBx2 6200 MHz \ Storage : Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2 1TB \ PSU : Corsair TX750M | CASE : Be Quite! Pure Base 500DX Black

It’s stable other than the game crashes without the xmp enabled. The Gpu still gets hot really quickly, even with the side panels off, and games crash in the first 15 min. Hotspot is in the 90s and junction 107 when it crashes.

What CPU Cooler do you have?  Case?  Opening a side panel doesn't get air moving, you want AIRFLOW, not just air.

That 100w PSU may be an issue too.

Open box motherboard... not the best idea.  It means it's not refurbished, or tested.  Just someone returned it and said "they didn't want it" but it may be returned due to being defective, you never know.

sorry that's a typo. Its a 1000watts

running a 360 mm Capellix aio on my CPU exhausting out of the top of case. CPU never gets out of the 50s.

GPU is running its own cooler there are 3 Corsair fans in the bottom of the case pulling in fresh air for the gpu. Power supply isn't in the bottom of the case so its unimpeded fresh air. It shouldn't be an airflow issue.

Case is Jonsbo D41. I have an RTX 3070 dual fan on an am4 platform in this case before the new build that rarely hit above 70 C.

I just ran Heaven for 15 min and junction temp on GPU hit 110. Oddly, it doesn't crash in Heaven, just in game.

Another update-

Put my 3070 into the system and no crashes in game. temps are no higher than  73.

EXPO is still a no go.

So I think I have 2 separate issues? The memory and the GPU.

Should I send back the GPU and go with memory on the motherboard compatibility list or swap out the board too?

Expo should not be an issue. Have you tried setting the timings manually? That might be possible with the new expo feature.

Some motherboards have problems with the auto setting for it like it does with DOCP on my am4 motherboard. Mine frequently reboots into the bios when it is enabled, so I disable it.

Latest bios?

Yes latest bios. I will try manually setting it and see what happens.
do you think it is a separate issue from the Gpu? I am sending back the Gpu. I cannot get it to run without crashing.

If the motherboard posts just fine and the memory timings is the only thing....then it is silly to return it. However, it is up to you. Future bios updates may resolve it to support more memory kits and other bugs. Also different memory brands or kits produce different timings. 4 sticks of memory has can have problems on ryzen with expo. Memory listed on the QVL memory compatible list for motherboards is a generic list that are known to work, but it doesn't mean the timings will always work to what you want because the list says it will. Test it to see. Sometimes you have to tinker with the motherboard bios settings.

As for the GPU, that's fine to return if is not working properly.

Apologies if this is confusing.
