Im going to repaste my cpu today. The paste currently applied was the included paste that came with my DRP4 but i figured i could do better by swapping out the ILM with a contact frame and applying some kryonaut. The paste has been on there since april when i built the thing so I dont think it should be too hard to get off with the 70% IPA i have. Im planning on using cotton balls and coffee filters to remove the existing paste. Is there anything I should know before going to repaste my cpu and cooler? This is my first time doing such a thing.

You dont swap out your IHS with the contact frame. You swap out ILM with the contact frame. Other than ILM swap, its just a thermal paste swap, no special procedure is needed.

Are you noticing high temps with your 13th gen?  The Dark Rock Pro 4 is a great cooler, and BeQuiet preapplies good paste.

I have a 13600kf on an msi z790 tomahawk. The cpu is manually undervolted a tinge and i also used MSI’s liteload undervolting to lower it further (i cant remember the specific offsets right now). The temps sit around 40 degrees C with idling and light usage and climb as intended with heavier usage without overheating. Im mainly doing this just because I want to see just how much cooler i can get it to run. Also, the drp4 didn't have paste preapplied on it if thats what you meant in your post. It came in a tube with no markings or identifications and i essentially applied the whole tube on it.

Right, pre-applied or provided, sorry.

 

Well, love to see some before and after temp graphs if you do this.  

 

To answer your question tho, nothing special about swapping paste.  I just use a paper towel to wipe it off when I do it. *shrug*

Here are the results. Please forgive the god-awful piccollage I made to present this but as you can see, there is an appreciable drop in temps with the contact frame and kryonaut.

Curious what drop to attribute to the contact frame and how much to the paste change, but either way it's significant.  Nice work.
