Hi all, I'm looking how to cool a epyc 7743, this one has SP3 socket, but has been so hard to found info about this!

First, the one that almost all ppl saying to me is the best is Freezer 4U SP3, but now it can't be found almost any place, no stock.... so the hard question is how to find the second best option.

We can check the tier list of LTT forums:

There is a SP3 section, but seems to be incomplete.

Actually there is several SP3 coolers that are not listed on the tier and they are great, or at least one of them, like this: https://www.phoronix.com/review/dynatron-a39-epyc/ Which is better than the noctua one.

So, I found the next coolers too:

Dynatron, there is a lot of this ones! A38, A39, A50 Air Cooler | DYNATRON Corp. | Air cooler,Liquid cooler,CPU cooler,OEM,ODM | Union City, CA

While the A50 they claims is the best one, remember the A39 wins against the noctua one.

There is a review for the A38 too: https://www.phoronix.com/review/dynatron-a38-epyc/.

IIRC Dynatron seels the A50 from this year, so is a very recent version.

Supermicro SNK-P0064AP4 H11 : https://www.ebay.com/itm/334351861634

Silverstone XE04-SP3 : https://www.ebay.com/itm/304954140384

The noctua one  NH-U14S TR4-SP3, this is a special case, because the design aims to the top (the fan is rotated 90°), which is not always the best nor works in all cases or build, so lets exclude it, or at least think of it with this consideration.

So, with all this, how to choose a SP3 cooler? high rpm/static pressure does not always means better cooling, and some times we only can water cooling or air cooling, so would be great if someone can write to complement the actual tier for SP3, sadly I was not be able to found more info about the cooler.

In my case, I want Air cooler, just because here is a lot of earthquakes, but would be good have more info about this.

Thx!

well, do you care about the noise output?

there are a lot of SP3 coolers out there designed for use in datacenters or other loud environments, where a 15K RPM fan is nothing out of the ordinary.

I personally run watercooling on all my EPYC systems.

That depends, pick the Dynatron A50, is pretty interesting, it reaches 60db of noise, but has 8k rpm, in proportion is pretty similar to a Noctua fan, they reach 2200rpm, pci proportion of noise/rpc and is similar, so a Dynatron one would be better just because you can go on higher rpm, I can only know this thx to the phoronix reviews too.

Well, yeah I care about the noise, I was thinking on some foam in some parts to handle the sound of the fan in some strategics parts I think I would be able to reduce the noise.

I'm really afraid of earthquakes, here is a pretty hard ones.... and water on the pc... is a very bad idea... just need to one water pipe to be disconnected, but I agree I would like to test it, maybe if I'm able to handle in some ways earthquakes I would like to test them.

15k RPM sounds a lot of noise! sadly I don't think I can afford that, but, if there is a cooller that is great even with noise, would be good to know in the ltt tier list.

More RPM does not always means have better cooling, and some times the improvement can be very insignificant compared to the cost of electricity/noise for example.
