Rather not have a plug that is also used for other stuff.
Making it so you can have compatibility issues.

Displayport, if it fits it should work.

Unlike the mini where its also used for thunderbolt 4 connection.

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

i'd assume because bigger plug is easier to manufacture (because less tight tolerances), full size displayport has a retention mechanism, and probably the spacing means signal integrity is a touch better, but that might be a far reach.

 

also - displayport -the normal plug- has been in use for over a decade, as long as the devices we use have room for them, there isnt much reason to get rid of them. it's only quite recent that we've seen DVI getting phased out... and honeslty that's an annoyance for me, because my displays run off dual-link DVI, with long-ass cables, so a GPU upgrade means either buying adapters, or new long-ass displayport cables.
