LTT TV Recommendations

LTT TV has been going on for over a day now, and I feel like there is huge potential for this. There are a few things to make it feel more “TV-like.”

 

1. LTT TV Logo

During an LTT video, add a small LTT logo in the bottom-right corner, like standard television. You can even make a new logo. A logo design could be the LTT logo inside of a CRT-style TV.

 

LTTstore Ad Placements

I feel like the ad placements right now are kind of random, so there could be some changes on placement such as:

- Ad after the outro of every video

- 2-3 ads per LTT video, preferably before a big announcement/event

- If you want to go overboard, 2 LTT ads in the same ad slot

 

These small changes could make it feel a lot more like normal television. This has huge potential!

I've watched for about 8 hours so far.

1. I suggest not using previously live videos in the loop.  Many viewers expressed confusion in chat.

2. Some pop-up or intro graphic indicating the topic and or date of the initial video would be nice.  This was suggested by a few people in the chat.  Several more agreed.

3. As you grow the library of videos in the loop, avoid any total loop time close to a multiple of 8 hours.  Most people, likely, watch close to the same times every day/week.  People with rotating work schedules usually slide by 8 hours at a time.

4. I'd put a more verbose explanation of what is going on with the Beta test in the description.  Many people pop in and are immediately MAD.  Several of us spent a bit of time explaining about the test and the discussion from the WAN show.

5. In my 8 hours, Linus was wrong.  The chat has not been toxic.  There were several people popping in with tech questions, and people tried to help.  We spent some time discussing our first computers.  The chat delay was a great idea.  However, 60 seconds might be a bit too long.  I'd suggest 45 or even 30 seconds.

 

The biggest complaint that I have heard is YouTube's fault.  Most complaints are due to the "Live Now" appearing at the top of the home page.  Several people have flame sprayed the chat that this is just a cheap trick and they were going to unsubscribe.

 

The second biggest complaint is from mobile users who are automatically shunted to the 24/7 show when they select the LTT channel.  I have not tested this on my phone yet.

 

An understandable criticism is people coming in to chat and realizing they saw the same video yesterday.  Obviously, this is unavoidable at the start.  You can only edit so much for a test.

The add placement are going to be a tough change.  Since "And now a word from our sponsor..." is built in, moving the sponsor videos around might be jarring.

I might suggest:

1. Making the imbedded sponsor videos exclusively LTT store items, when possible.

2. Splicing in LTT sponsor spots between the videos.  That way you can roll them in and out as sponsors come and go.

3. Craziest idea would be to break the videos at the sponsor toss and have a changeable sponsor spot in between the different portions of the video.  I understand this may be almost inexecutable to make sure the videos play in the right order.

Unpopular opinion incoming:

 

They should just get rid of the sponsor segways in the LTT TV version. It will be hard to cut them out, but I feel like it doesn’t make it feel “television-like.” Their purpose for this is to be like TV, right?

 

Also, sponsor slots should be at the beginning of an “episode,” then the LTT intro, then the video. This is still very in beta testing, and more videos are being added everyday, but I see huge potential for this project.

I don't disagree with your idea.  If you cut the sponsor toss, you could slap spots between videos.  As a concept, I think agility with the sponsor slots is a must have.
