R320 LRDIMM Compatibility?

Go to solution Solved by OddOod,

Sounds like as long as you update the BIOS you should be good to go

Hi everyone! I've been looking for ram for a few R320s that I have and I've come across a question which I haven't been able to find a definitive answer on: does the R320 support LRDIMM ram?

According to the owners manual, only UDIMM and RDIMM are mentioned. However, the owners manual for the R620 and R720 mention LRDIMM being supported. From looking online it seems like it might be a situation where it's not officially supported but it would still work? It's still unclear.

If anyone could shed some light on this that would be great. Thanks!

EDIT:

After a bit of research I did find mentions of LRDIMM in the BIOS release notes:

1.4.6:

  • Updated DIMM rank reporting for LRDIMMs to use physical rather than logical number of ranks

1.3.5:

  • Updated DIMM types used in power budget calculation to include LRDIMMs

Quick update for anyone who stumbles upon this post. I ended up getting a few 32GB LRDIMMs (Hynix HMT84GL7AMR4A-PB) and tested it with two different R320s on the latest BIOS firmware. Everything seems to be working fine and they're recognized as LRDIMMs.

So, I would say mission successful!
