Hey there all just a quick question. I have an HP Omen 16 laptop Intel 12700h 16 gb ram Nvidia 3060 GPU. And it has 2 thunderbolt 4 ports on the back wich I believe both are capable of display port out so when I want to set this up for desk use with an external monitor and periferals if I am satisfied with the rest of the IO on the laptop do I need a dock or do I just need a monitor that accepts display port via USBC/ thunderbolt? Thanks in advance!

You can use a monitor that accepts USB C, you can use a dock or you can use a USB C to DP adapter/cable. It really doesn't matter all that much.

Personally if I were you I would try to get my hands on a simple Thunderbolt 3/4 to DP 1.4 adapter.

Thanks that confirms what I was thinking as there is plenty of I/o on the laptop itself so just get a thunderbolt 4 to DP 1.4 cable
