Ubiqiti CCTV

Go to solution Solved by Oshino Shinobu,

Switch should be able to power it okay. Most, if not all of the UniFi cameras use 802.3af for PoE, but double check the camera you want isn't 802.3at (if it is, check your switch supports that).

For storage and management, you'll need a Cloud Key Gen 2 Plus (not the normal Gen 2, it must be plus), a Dream Machine/Pro or a UniFi NVR in order to run protect.

For the older cameras, you can technically run them using UniFi Video, which can be installed on a variety of OSes including Windows, but it's old and not supported.

Just a note on UniFi Protect. It's okay for home use, but if this is for a business I would advise against it. It's missing really basic features and the devs seem to prioritise constant UI changes and moving settings menus rather than adding or improving features.

Hi

I don't normally post anything but could do with little advice, i'm looking into getting Ubiqiti not sure if spelt right  CCTV camera to upgrade my current one I have a netgear POE switch at the moment, just curious to know do I need a ubqiti switch to run one of their cameras or will my current netgear 8 port POE do the job just fine.

Many Thanks
