I have an ASUS TUF F15 FX506LU since 2 years, out of warranty with an i5 10300H CPU and a GTX 1660 Ti GPU.

I noticed that the CPU fan was making a weird noise and sounded like it was hitting something on the inside so I opened the laptop and disconnected the CPU fan. I've also turned off CPU turbo and disabled the dedicated GPU and idle temps are around 65°C. There wasn't anything inside that would indicate that the fan is stuck or is hitting anything inside.

Is it ok to keep using the laptop as it is for basic tasks (office, browsing, watching movies, etc) without the CPU fan ?

I want to get the fan replaced but as seen on different YouTube videos, the process is pretty complicated for me (I don't have experience with replacing parts) because the whole heatsink has to be removed first in order to be able to replace the fans. Also, I live in a small city and there aren't any reputable repair shops and I'd rather not take the laptop to them only to get it back with more problems than it had.

I've also asked some people and they said that the CPU will damage overtime if I continue to use it like that. But why? Even in CPU load with turbo turned off, the CPU doesn't reach anything higher than 85°C, before. when the CPU fan was working and CPU turbo turned on, it was reaching around 90-95°C under load so I don't get this. Why would it damage overtime without the fan if temps are actually lower now?

I would love if someone could clarify this for me.

Thanks!

Personally I would keep the fan plugged in and live with the noise (unless its very loud) until i get the new fan and can replace the old one, but it should run fine without the fan, it will throttle the cpu or gpu if it gets too hot. If it gets too hot when even throttling, it should just shut off.

Thanks for your response!

Well, the noise wasn't that loud at first but as time went, it kept getting louder and louder even with headphones on so I eventually disconnected the fan because of the noise kept getting louder and louder.

Edit: As the noise got very loud recently, I've also noticed that the fan wasn't getting any hot air out anyway so imo it was useless to keep it still connected, it wasn't doing any good.
