Hi everyone.

I didn't know where to post this, I had the choice of 'operating system' or 'laptops'. I have a problem and would like somee help.

I am running an ROG STRIX II with an Intel Core i7-870H and Nvidia Geforece RTX2070 8gig (dxdiag doesn't say if mobile chip or not but I presume it is mobile since it's a laptop), 16 Gig system RAM.

I've been running the same Windows install since I baught it more than 4 years ago. Things are starting to get a bit slow.

What is the fastest and easiest way to reinstall the operating system with the least amount of reinstalling programs etc. I'd like to keep the armor crate softwear. I can uninstall all my games from the SSD(500g) and the HDD (1tb) to speed up any back up process. I have all my logins for other softwear saved sepratly and a firefox acount to back up my bookmarks etc.

Also any other tips to make the process easer would be much apreachiated.

Thanks.

Either wipe and fresh install or do an in-place upgrade. That can sometimes fix any OS corruption by practically rebuilding the foundation of Windows. It works by running the installation media while in Windows and selecting 'keep my files and apps'.

If your next option is reinstalling, an in-place upgrade is a worthy thing to attempt first. Will take ~30mins of waiting around to do it.

I'd just do a fresh install if it's not too much trouble. You loose all files and programs though so keep that in mind.

Takes some time to reinstall all drivers and programs of course, but starting fresh and getting rid of all the build up stuff you don't need / slow down your os is pretty nice.

If I do a complete fresh install -is it just a case of taking a pen and paper and writing down all the programs I like then reinstalling the OS then going through my hand written list of programs to reinstall (plus drivers etc)?

Basically. https://ninite.com/ is real handy to quickly install a bunch of programs for a fresh install.

And of course make sure to save your important personal files if you have those.

Ok, that ninite site looks very useful. I have backups of personal files, unfortunatly it's on google but I don't have easy off site backups. Right I'll put aside next Saturday and just do a full reinstall. I'm not looking forward to it but hopefully the results should be good.
