Im soon gonna build a new PC and cant really decide if i should get a 4080 or 7900XTX.

Both cards offer similar similar perfomance with only slight differences depending on the game. (alteast for traditional rendering)

There are both reasons against and for both cards and wherever i look people either recommend one or the other, there really isnt a clear winner.

I personally dont really care too much about RayTracing atm but dont wanna disregard it completly. Also the higher price of around 200€ for the 4080 isnt something i wouldnt be able to pay but its still nice to save.

Ive had both AMD and Nvidia Cards before and been happy with them but feel like Nvidia even more so then AMD treats its costumers like trash atm.

Then there also is DLSS and FSR to consider, whilst both are good DLSS definitly has the upper hand atm, but that could change with the release of FSR3.

I would really appreciate your input and opinion on what Card you think is better and why. Also feel free to share your experience if you have either of these. Thank you

TLDR: With everything considered whats the better card to get in ur opinion

ye defo go for the 7900 xtx. Better performance for less. But if you really like some features like reflex and geforce experience then maybe you wanna consider nvidia since some cards are more like 100 bucks more than the 7900 xtx. But for raw performance in games defo the 7900 xtx

7000 series is still a neck behind on this but its not so bad that youd hate yourself for trying to play with it.

Both arent going to appeal to your morale, AMD severely overshoot their MSRP and their initial batch of reference 7900 series were super ass in quality and mounting pressure that vendors straight up say to put a refund until new batches arrives that fixed the issue.

Nvidia does the same in terms of pricing (and arguably in worse situation as they have no interest in permanent MSRP drop and resort to pity party promos) and doesnt warn the consumer enough that 12VHPWR doesnt clip in as audibly like normal ATX connectors, causing a bunch of fire hazard issue. And their middle finger to PCI-SIG (which remember, nvidia is a part of the founding members) consensus on many things to make 4000 series happen is also quite frowned upon.

How expensive is your power?

4080 is more power efficient than a 7900XTX.

My BF ultimately went with a 4080 after considering power for 5 years (unfortunately power got cheaper now)….

i dont pay that much for power, it was higher here aswell but has gotten down and will go down further for the near future

By the way, check non references design 7900XTX price. As 7900XTX reference design had some problem with hot spot. AIB 7900XTX was at about the same price when MyBF bought his card (the 4080 he bought was on small sale too 7900XTX was more expensive ).

ultimately the reason to choose 4080 is the better RTX and DLSS. (Nvidia card can also use FSR2.0 too, so they might able to use FSR3.0 when that comes out)

It’s really down to your preference. And which card works better on games you play.

yeah i would recommend you an aib rx 7900xtx card, it performs better in rasterized games and isnt that far of (but still worse) with rt enabled, the software is better (in my opinion, geforce experience kinda sucks and nvidia control pannel is so outdated). for video recording and streaming, AMD has actually pretty decent media encoders on the rx 7900xtx, its on par with the 4080, but not with the 4090.

it also has 24gb of vram so you will never have problems in games at 4K, the 4080 may have problems in new games in the future.

and why you should take an aib card, they have better temps, are way quieter and (of course depending on which model you choose) you can overclock them 10-15%, which i find pretty impressive.

there have been some rumours that fsr3 will be in driver, it can be enabled in every game so thats also pretty cool. (dont take this for granted, its a rumour)

i think the 7900xtx is just the better video card of the 2, but the 4080 also has some strong points.

the best aib rx 7900xtx cards are:

-sapphire nitro+       (this is the best aib model, it has a special vapor chamber cooler and the highest power draw (420W). you can OC this one to 3GHz, but at 535W...)

-gigabyte aorus elite

-asus tuf

-powercolor red devil

-asrock taichi (white)

-xfx speedster

-msi gaming trio

if you scroll down on this site, you will find almost all of the rx 7900xtx cards available.

I was undecided between the two you mentioned, but in the end I got a 4080.

I was a bit afraid of driver issues with the XTX, and also many say it has bad support for VR (I currently don't have VR, but I am interested in it), and most of all is the higher power usage of the XTX (especially on multimonitor and video playback), which will be annoying in my case because while working I always have video's playing back on a secondary monitor.

Speaking of performance, in the "Radeon RX 7900 XTX vs. GeForce RTX 4080 50+ Game Benchmark" Techspot review ( https://www.techspot.com/review/2599-radeon-7900-xtx-vs-geforce-rtx-4080/ ), about half of the games the 7900XTX is better, and the other half the 4080 is better, which if you take the average it means they are nearly equal.

The 7900 XTX will live longer because of the more RAM (24GB) versus the 16 of the 4080.

see what is better for your situation.

Computer: AMD 5900x | PNY RTX 4080 | 32GB DDR4-3600 GSkill Neo | Corsair RM750x

yeah i was going with the Sapphire nitro+, appart from the perfomance its also the most appealing imo. Thanks for your answer

I picked the 4080 for the ray tracing performance which is the only reason I picked it over the 7900 XTX. The performance differences between them is otherwise negligible until you get into 8K graphics where the extra VRAM starts to come into play. I simply couldn't compromise on the immersion and photo realism that I'm aiming for when 4K gaming.
