Question about the command "bcdedit /set {current} hypervisorlaunchtype auto"

I had issues with running Docker on Windows and I found out Hyper-V was not enabled.

At first I ran bcdedit /set {current} hypervisorlaunchtype auto but Docker still didn't work, then I realized Hyper-V was not even enabled, so I ran Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Hyper-V -All, and voila, it worked!

 

But what exactly did  bcdedit /set {current} hypervisorlaunchtype auto - did it just set Hyper-V to start as a service on boot for the current user?

It will have done nothing since that's the default.

When hyper-v is enabled it's a system service that'll always be running from boot time, unless disabled in bcdedit which you can use to disable it without fully uninstalling.
