Hello

So I have decided that I will be upgrading my PC, as it is fairly rubbish, as it currently has Core 2 Duo and an 8500gt. So I have came up with what I find a reasonable upgrade, and I would very much appreciate if some of you could give me tips.

So my main question is: Can this run games such as BF4? I will be running at 1440x900, and I don't care if its low quality. Also, will a 300 watt PSU be enough to handle this?

I will be doing extremely light work, such as Word, and gaming. No work that will be intensive on the cpu, however I still would prefer a quad core.

I plan on later adding a graphics card, better psu, SSD etc. etc.

Also, before I give you the build, note that I live in Australia.

Parts List:

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/siliconecake/saved/4EJR

It would be best if it was kept below $400, however if its a little bit over, say $410-$420, it would be fine.

Thank you in advance to anyone who helps me out :)

don't cheap out now, and buy better later. You spend more money overall, and dont get as much for your money. Save up a bit longer

Linus' kaveri build guide should be a good place to start.

The A10 and the R7 250 in crossfire can run bf4 on medium 30-45fps w/ medium settings. If you're only running @ 1440x900, you might get away with high or even ultra

The APU outperforms the fuck out of my 8500gt. It has trouble staying above 60fps on the rock bottom settings.

i know that feeling bro, but just save up a bit more. Please for the love of linus be patient.

I know both of you are right, however I am only 14, and have no income whatsoever. This is what I have now, and won't be getting anything for about half a year. And this way, this can certainly last me a long time, until I can afford an extremely good GPU, maybe an 800 series when they come out.

It's pretty much throwing away the money you earned for instant gratification.

If you really want to get something now, take the $400 and get a GTX760, then save the rest for an i5/mobo. The 760 will breath some life back into your current rig, and should help hold you over until you can get a better cpu/mobo.

The 760 needs 170w to run, and im assuming the rest of your system doesn't take up the remaining 130w. So you won't need to get a new PSU for the time being either.

The power supply though

Prostitution seems like a good one.

Try saving up more, a 760k and a r7 265 can do wonders for you, but a psu change is going to be a must. A old 300w no brand unit can burn your whole investment to the ground

Yeah I know, my friend learnt the hard way :P

heres the deal: wait = good stuff

i had my prev rig (core 2 duo e7500 and gt 210) for like 4.5 years or so and since i discovered gaming (3 years ago) i knew that my pc is outdated so i asked and asked and asked for new pc but they kept delaying(my parents) with phrases like "later" "ok" and "we dont have money right now" and now, fast forward to 2014 i waited a long time and i am rewarded well.

^^^ I edited my post, your PSU should be able to run the 760. It needs 170w to run, and i doubt the rest of your system will consume 130w. Worst come to worst, you will have money left over to buy a better PSU if the card requires it.

The EVGA dual superclocked 760 is $239.99. http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/video-card/#c=142&sort=a8

if you want, do it like me: staging.

First month buys motherboard, wait a lil' longer buy RAM, wait a lil' longer Buy CASE wait a lil' longer buy CPU and so on, so on. so if you dont have the money for the ram you could wait, then if you do buy it.

Thats American prices, here a 760 costs upwards of 300 bucks. I'll look into it though, but I'm guessing my 3gb DDR2 ram, core 2 duo and such would bottleneck the fuck out of it.

However, if I did I'd go mobo, cpu, ram, gpu, psu, case, ssd, good HDD

OP what motherboard do you have to run this dual core CPU of yours? if you could upgrade ram to at least 4gb, idealy 6gb, and find a used Q6600 Go stepping on ebay for cheap and overclock it some

and then get something like an r7 265 graphics card and you will be able to max out BF4 and many other games at 1400x900 resolution.

We just need to make sure your motherboard supports the quad-core chip and ram...

Here, you can have a Q6600 SLACR (Go stepping) for about 50 or 60$ on ebay:

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |
| GPU: MSI RTX 3080Ti Ventus 3X OC  RAM: 32GB T-Force Delta RGB 3066mhz |

If you cant make the deal, break the deal. simple. I'll see you in BF4 ;)
