My old pc case (zalman m3 plus) broke a few weeks ago i posted it in the forum and people told me it just sorta happens, I thought it was because i cheaped out on the case from a not really known brand and ive ran it for a year when it broke. But then i rebuilt it on an MSI Mag Forge m100r about 2 weeks ago and it just immedeately broke when i unscewed it and tried to take it off to clean it a little bit. It was idle running on 40 degrees celcius and it usually runs at an average of 70 degrees max w/100% load on the 3060.

TLDR; The tampered glass on my 2 week old case shattered immedeately when i opened it. Its an MSI Mag Forge M100R. It runs on an air conditioned room with idle temp.

Yea, that's why I don't bother with tempered glass. It looks pretty but not worth the paranoia when handling it or just plain out shattering because of defects.

My main's case has acrylic plastic and all my other PCs are window-less.

Definitely get a replacement cause having the glass just randomly break like that is unacceptable for a new case

Also if you are gonna run without sidepanel there are many many 5-10$ or outright free office cases you can pickup, aesthetics are easily fixed by just taking off the frontpanel and covering it with something that doesnt look like crap (fans and airflow are uneccesary since you are effectively running an open bench)

Tempered glass will do that if you so much as nick or bump a corner.

+1. And to add to everyone here: tempered glass really peaked already. Price bump helps to get thicker glass but ive seen even the likes of Bequiet Dark Bases having completely obliterated panel just from opening or even spontaneously and that case has deliberately thick panel to stop noises.

  • 3 weeks later...

Tempered glass is cooled quickly, which compresses the surface, and tenses the body of the glass, a bit like an inverse glass balloon.
Now glass is quite hard, so pricking this glass balloon isn't too easy. However, being made of ceramic as they are, tile floors shatter tempered glass faster than you can blink.
