Android Audio Hissing

My current smartphone (LG Optimus 4X) has horrible audio quality compared to my iPod Touch 4g. Whenever I plug in my headphones I hear a constant high-pitched hissing noise in the background, even when music is not playing. Are all Android phones like this or is it just mine? I am thinking of getting the HTC One M8 to replace my current phone, or alternatively I could keep my phone and get an iPod Touch 5g for music.

Is your phone plugged in and charging while you hear this? If so, unplug the charger, and listen again.
