So i have a new PC, and the temps have been low in general (@30C iddle and 60s gaming) except when a particular game compiles shaders then it goes to 90c+. I was trying to undervolt it to lower the temps when cpu is 100% used but i tried everything from offset actual core voltage, setting it manually, on/off Asus performance enhancement, etc. Some things result in massive performance loss, lower temps and others dont realy change anything. Cinebench (a single run, not 10 minute run) hits 100c before it finishes. Also am unable to undervolt using intel XTU for some reason...

I have a 13600k with an asus B760-i Gaming wifi and a cooler master 240ML AIO inside a well ventilated NR200P. Anyone has any ideas?

is the TLOU PC version we are talking about here with the shaders compiling?  The cooler master 240ML is not a very good AIO, I had one on my 9900k and it made me never want an AIO ever again.  Try new thermal paste or remount the cooler. In the BIOS you can also increase the pump speed, that might help.

generally if you only hit 100c when benchmarking then it's not a problem with the machine but more user error. however if for some reason you need the cpu to be at 100% usage for some reason then i'd suggest a better cooler and colder air.

chances are youre blowing not cold air through a 240 rad without the fans at 100% so it makes sense it would run hot

Look into a contact frame. 12th and 13th gen intel chips are bent by the socket latch in a way that makes them concave. It results in a poor contact in the middle of the chip, right in the hottest part. The contact frame replaces the socket latch and applies pressure on all 4 corners, removing the bending, resulting in much better cpu to cooler contact.

Here is a vid on it:

Does cooler master have software that lets you look at the temp of the loop?  I just know corsiar and others do, and can set their fan speeds based on that vs. the cpu temp.  Also lower CFM fan that often ship with radiators just do not do as good a job.  I took the corsair fans off 240mm I had and threw some high CFM noctua fans on it, and my temps dropped by 15 deg.

Hogwarts legacy and call of duty. Pump speed is set to 100% by default. I just repasted.

It spikes to 85-95C as soon as the benchmark starts...the cooler doesnt have time to do its job...as soon as the benchark ends it goes back to 30s in a few seconds.

Yeah am going to get one of those. Just wanted to try undervolting first cause some people report very good results.

oh well then you have a thermal paste bridge between the block and cpu. meaning the block isn't contacting the cpu flush and is just using the thermal paste as a bridge to reach it. the thermal mass of a cooler prevents sudden spikes so if it's not contacting it flush then it'll spike right away.

Found the problem. The CPU Specs are PL1 181w, PL2 181W, CPU Core/cache current limit 410a.

These are the MB default settings PL1 253w, PL2 300w, CPU current limit 511.75.

Replaced the values and now the CPU stays at 90-93C during cinebench r23 10 min.

A lot of the mobo manufacturers just ignore the power spec - gives a few % more performance that way (if your cooling can keep up). Good find. Is your cinebench score in line with where it should be?

Still tweaking. Got the temperature lower and Cinebench score is higher.

Current settings are CPU Core/Cache Current Limit max. - 511.25

Long duration package power limit (PL1) - 190

Short duration package power limit (PL2)- 190

Core voltage offset -0.15

You could try just undervolting the cpu and removing the power limit. Depends on what your core voltage was doing before. There was another guy who’s board was putting 1.47v through the cpu which will overwhelm any conventional cooling immediately. Try for a max vcore of 1.30 to start with and see how things go.
