Hey there,

atm i have a Server with Unraid installed, love it but im at a point where i work more against the OS than it helps me.

and now im planning to move to another OS, i dont use GUI´s anymore (docker compose with 2k lines and similar). The alternative would be freenas i think but is it just another fancy gui tool i have to work against?

my idea is to use base debian and install/configure all i need on the command line, my question is what your thoughts are about this? are there things i should have in mind?

So you are trying to say you don't want an os with gui like unraid and truenas. Ok, that is completely fine but I don't think there are any things to tell you about. Debian is already a very reliable os and there is always an option to install gui for debian whenever you want. I think you should go ahead with your plan.

the thing is, i dont know if thoose "NAS OS" systems makes special things i should have in mind bevore moving to new os. despite making easy clicky interfaces for easy entry. installing and configuring docker, zfs and co isnt the problem for me.

just wanted to ask if there are any "special" things i should have in mind 🙂
