Hi guys. I have two 8 gig USB disk. One from Syrox and one from SanDisk.

In MiniTool Partition Wizard, the Syrox one is seen as removable -which is true-, but the SanDisk Cruzer Blade sees itself as a Local Disk (non-removable).

I don't care much about the fact that a USB Disk sees itself as a Local Disk, but I wonder why? Why a USB Flash Drive, recognizes itself as a Local Disk (non-removable)?

Thank you for your responses...

Having a Master Boot Record (MBR) doesn't mean it isn't removable, only that it contains boot information or was formatted as an MBR partition, rather than GPT. Have you put anything on that particular drive that would cause that? Something like Windows installation media could do it.

Ok so first of all; I wasn't trying to show the MBR writing, I was trying to show the "removable" writing that supposed to be there. But no worries, my bad. I know the definition of MBR.

It was actually GPT but I converted to MBR for a thinking of maybe it can fix. But it didn't.

And yes, I use the 8 gig ones mainly for Windows installations, the Syrox one still has Windows 11 22H2.

The Sandisk one -which is the one that feels like local disk- was used for a Windows 10 installation, but after that I always format the drives with Rufus as FreeDOS (no operating system). Still sees itself as a local disk.

No worries. All kinds of users ask questions here and I typically try to err on the side of over-explaining, just in case.

I did a little more research, and it appears Sandisk had a bad habit of coding the controllers to present themselves as an internal drive for quite some time. You might be able to fix it following some suggestions here: https://superuser.com/questions/117563/usb-stick-appearing-as-hard-disk-drive-not-removable-storage-device

alright... first of all, sorry for not responding for 3 days. I have some exams going on.

secondly, thanks for the article link. I had a quick look and one other guy gaves a link for a fix. but, the post and so the link is pretty old. so, thanks again for the link but the fix link is probably lost to desert of internet.

tbh; im not to concerned about this situation. as long as it can handle a Windows iso, its fine for me 😄

I just wondered why this is happening. and looks like its a common drive controller issue.

so, thanks again for your help and have a good day (or night idk)
