Hello all

have a set of 4x Seagate Exos 7E8 6TB drives (st6000nm029a) These used to be in my Dell PowerEdge 1900, a server from 2008 with an 850w server power supply. was running fine but it was slow and it cost an arm and a leg in electricity COsts.

finally made the decision to build a new NAS and went with the Semi-modular Corsair TX750M. When I connect the hard drives up to it, they do not even spin up. then tried a spare Corsair MWE550 with no luck. When connecting these to my SATA SSD, the SSD works fine. Eventually, I tried a 500w PSU took out of a prebuild (see pic) and it works fine but due to that PSU only having two Sata power cables, I'm unable to run all drives. Any ideas?

So none of the drives spin up with only the sata power connectors connected?

Does the power supply that works have 4 or 5 wires on the sata cables or how many wires?

It was two power supplies they tried.

The Corsair MWE550 does the same thing tho, powers on SSDs fine but not the hard drives. The 750 does power SSDs on fine too.

The cheap PSU that actually works has 4 cables (ketchup and mustard coloured) going into the SATA connector. These are coming directly off a molex cable.

The Corsair ones both have 5 going into the PSU.

Think I may have found the issue.
