Budget for cpu and MB, up to 270usd. It seems I can keep everything else.

I'd really like an igpu.

AM5 is expensive.

Then I discovered how cheap AM4 is.

I considered 5600G and 5700G which are good and cheap cpus. But they carry some downsides. I do believe they'd be ok but I decided to enquire a little further.

So I checked Intel 1700. It's doable. Nice and cheap boards. I could be happy with a 13100, a 12100 or a used 12400.

Then I checked Intel 1200, seems nice too. I could be happy with a used 11600K or 10600K.

A lot of options, which is nice but complicated.

(Windows 11 is a good part of the motivation to upgrade. I don't feel my actual performance lacking)

Any comments ?

What country are you in? For you I would get am4 new since the 12400s are more expensive than the 5600g/5700g and aren't normally better

tad over (15 bucks) but has an 8 core 5700g and decent mobo too

They want an igpu (since they don't have enough budget for a dgpu)

Then again @leclod you could just get a cheap 5600 and b450/b550 and slap in a used rx 580

Intel's route. Id definitely go for 12600K instead of 13400 or 13500 due to the better stepping, but really either or in terms of performance.

Hey thank you guys 🙂

Switzerland,

I do have a 3060, but I'd still like an igpu. I did consider 5600 - 5700.

There's a 12400 currently on auction at 127.-

5700G is 160.-

Whayt are you using the PC for?  With a 3060 you probably won't see any major changes in performance just upgrading your CPU.  You'd would be much better off buying a new CPU alongside the next GPU you buy,as DDR5 will be cheaper and more stable.

I edit the shit out of my posts.  Refresh before you respond.

Nothing intensive, I haven't been catched by one of my pc games for a while, more on the PS4.

I know waiting is always good. But I've got time on my hands and I need a change to be able to install W11.

I forgot to mention that Rufus would be another path.

No, Europe,

I'd like an igpu in my system as backup (if doable and it is).

Also with an igpu I can put my dgpu on sale any day and then buy another any day, when the price is right (or not).

12600K is expensive, even 13400 is expensive (for my needs)

You don't even need to do that.  Just enable fTPM and secure boot in your UEFI, and load the default boot keys.  Widows 11 will install.

No, its compatible.  Look through your UEFI, check a youtube vid.  Pretty much everything since 4th gen is.  Windows is blowing smoke up your ass, it's there.  Once you enable it and secure boot win11 will install normally.

Are you running the newest BIOS?

Is the CSM disabled?

is the board set to UEFI?

If yes to all 3, can you enable intel PTT?

If you have PTT running, it should let you install.  If not, however, just do the regedit install.  You have to open the cmd prompt and change like 3 keys during install, and then int installs and functions exactly the same as otherwise, and you'll still get all the security updates.  or do the rufus method.  Frankly, I think the regedit one is way simpler and faster.  It won't make any difference once windows is installed and updated.  I did this with a Dell 3770 system that did not have tpm and it runs win 11 perfectly and gets all the updates.

No PTT option in my bios. (CSM is disabled)

Thanks for caring.

The thing about upgrading is, it's cheap. So I'm considering it.

I do consider the Rufus path too.

Cheap sure, but with a 3060, it might not produce any benefit at all, so it probably won't really feel like an upgrade.  When you replace the 3060 down the line, there will be faster, cheaper, CPUs and DDR5 will be better and cheaper.

Not everything is about Gaming. I'm (kind of) ready for the no benefit situation.

Wait so if you don't use the PC for anything intense, and you can just rufus or regedit win 11 on, what do you want a new CPU for?

I mostly (download and) watch movies. But I have a decent Steam library. I played Blasphemous, a little Control, Gris (I recommend), Portal, Life is strange, Tomb Raider... I recently tried to like Assassins Creed but I failed, for now...
