Upgrading to Raid 1

Go to solution Solved by cleric_warlock,

While RAID 1 does add redundancy, it will negatively impact your performance with slower write speeds. Cloud backups or regularly scheduled hard storage backups will be better for you unless you truly need instantaneous redundancy.

I am planning to upgrade my current setup to RAID 1. Currently I have no redundency.

MB B760MDS3H AX Rev. 1.x DDR5

SSD Kingston NV2 500 GB.

Planning to populate the second NVME slot with another Kingston NV2 500 GB. While converting to RAID 1, I believe the drives will be wiped out. Is it possible to prevent this wipe out of my original drive while still making the second drive to be configured in to RAID 1?

You could make a backup and restore the backup?

But I'd generally stay away from raid on a desktop. SSDs are pretty reliable now, and backups are much better at keeping your data safe.

Hmm. Then I should think of my original plan to back up my boot drive to a Sata SSD, and tuck it away in case of uneventuality
