We've all heard about companies campaigning for the right to disconnect people from our beloved Internet as soon as they receive three DMCA copyright notices.

This seems fair enough, until you realise that they can send as many of these as they like. There's no reason why they couldn't just send the notices randomly to everyone.

Well, what about this: DMCA rights holders have 3 strikes. Any abuse of the DMCA (Taking down content that is not theirs, sending notices to the wrong people, etc) counts as a strike.

Once a rights holder has made 3 blunders,  they should be fined, and lose the right to send DMCA notices.

 

Just a random thought :D
