Hi

When im moving my gpu around in my case i can hear something like a metallic click. This sound also goes off every now and then when the fans are running. What could be causing it??

Traditionally that kind of noise is from a wire hitting a fan

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

it isnt constant though, every once in a while. no cable is hitting any of its fans so i dont know. also as i said it makes a similiar sound when pushing it up when in the pcie slot

You said it makes the same noise when you push the GPU up, means it is easily replicable. Try recording the sound.

@Poinkachuit tends to go off at around 1000 rpms and when fans are turning off sometimes. Its around 16th second of the vid https://twitter.com/jajo49948755/status/1657517345785405442?s=46&t=w-DcygokNVMpCznLB2QDhg

I didn't hear anything at 16th second.

I did hear something that sounds like a thump at 6th, 11th, 20th.

Try recording after removing the glass panel ?

There is fan cables too inside the GPU shroud.

And most likely there's RGB cables as well.

Sure. I can't promise that I will surely know what's causing it though.

Sound is moving air.  The reason one can hear some non air thing hot some other non air thing is the things a immersed in air and when they vibrate they transfer that to the air.  Computers don’t make noise by working, what makes noise is their components moving.  so it’s got to be a piece of the computer vibrating.  I still think there are fan blades hitting wires.  Lotta wires in there.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Ok, what if it is a wire? What can I do to prevent this sound? Do i have to send it to asus?

Here is the ticking sound when moving up. I think it comes from around the 2nd or 3rd fan of the gpu. It might be from the pcie slot since ive had a hard time screwing it in the case and i had to push the gpu to the left side https://twitter.com/jajo49948755/status/1657672963116638209?s=46&t=w-DcygokNVMpCznLB2QDhg

Well, to me that sounds like fan blade slightly touching something.

Either cable or a part of the GPU shroud.

I dont know then. Ive noticed that it appears when the fans are slowing down, for example from 1300 rpm to 1000 rpm. It isnt constant though, just a small tick. Ive searched through the fans and there doesnt seem to be any cables loose. Ill just live with it i guess

Well, to really check it you will need to disassemble the GPU shroud.

Also, check if the fan wobbles, just in case.

You have to move either the fan or the wire.  Wires can usually simply moved a bit, but they can also be taped out of the way. It didn’t look like a laptop but I could be wrong.

I searched through and there is no wire obstructing fans.

All they have to do is touch the back of the blade.  Merely really close may even be enough if they’re getting sucked in. Basically it’s any object though.  It’s just that fan wires are the most common.  If there is a tag on fan wires for instance that can cause it, or a wire for something else, or just about anything really.  It’s not uncommon to actually try to determine which fan is doing it with a field serviceable ear trumpet made of rolled paper.  This was a bit more complicated in years past when there were 3 bearing or more fans around.  That hasn’t been a thing with case fans for many years though.
