Budget (including currency)UP TO 2000 EUROS

Country: IRELAND SITES IN EU CAN BE USED TOO

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: TRIPLE AAA GAMING

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

current specs i7 8700k,asus prime z370a mobo corsair 32gb 3000mhz ram  750w EVGA G1 PSU main drive samsung 850evo ssd 500gb 2 hdd for storing games

2k or 4k which ever is cheaper but I want to play on RTX so a 4070 or better is wanted I am very torn between a 7800x3d and the i7 13700k both same price current pc restarts itself when even trying to play jedi survivor so its time for an upgrade

Do you need a monitor included in the budget and if not what is your current monitor resolution and refresh rate?

If you want a true RTX experience, you either need an RTX 4080 or RTX 4090. If you're planning on 4K, the default is the RTX 4090. If you're only planning on 1440p, then an RTX 4080 is enough. Regarding CPU, either of those work but I'm obviously partial to 3D v-cache CPUs which are amazing for gaming systems.

What GPU do you currently use?

Ryzen 7950x3D PBO +200MHz / -15mV curve CPPC in 'prefer cache'

RTX 4090 @133%/+230/+1000

Personally speaking I wouldn't do a full rebuild just yet with 8th gen Intel. 6th/7th gen is still just about OK but you have an advantage in 6C/12T and a CPU that supports Win 11, so there's plenty of life left in your parts. If it was me, I'd wait until the end of next year at the earliest before jumping at an upgrade when 15th Gen Intel and next gen AMD CPUs will likely be available.

Maybe try a Windows reinstall? Especially if you buy more storage:

With games performing far better when booting off an SSD I'd consider getting one just for game installs. I bought a 4TB Sata SSD to cover that and it's still of a similar speed vs using nvme storage. That may well change and soon but it might be worth considering, especially for older games.

Also, your motherboard supports 2x nvme PCI-E 3.0 drives, so there's nothing stopping you from buying more storage whenever you're ready and using it immediately. And you could transfer them to a new system.

2K is definitely cheaper. And the 4070 will work with your existing PSU, with a significant saving over the 4070TI. Decent 2560x1440 144Hz monitors are in the US$300. I think you're likely looking at €350+ in Ireland.

With that budget, you'd probably be better off with essential components like ram, a couple of nvme drives for an OS(nvme+dram) and general storage. Proper CPU cooling also isn't cheap. And probably a power supply upgrade, because you actually want a 4080 card for a future-proof 1440p gaming.

Remember to quote to get a response from someone!

For 1440p personally id try to get 9700K used off UK ebay and then snag a beefier 850W-1000W PSU to get yourself a comfier power budget to run more GPUs. And the rest of the budget should be enough to go for a 4090 or 7900XTX.
