Hey guys and gals,

so here is my pc specs to start:

  • GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GAMING OC, 12GB
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Desktop Processor
  • CPU COOLER: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO V2 R2 CPU Cooler
  • RAM: Team T-Force Vulcan Z Gray 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MHz DDR4
  • BOOT DRIVE: Samsung pro 980 250GB M.2
  • BULK DRIVE: Seagate barracuda 2TB HDD 3.5inch
  • OS: Windows 10 home
  • MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte X570 I Aorus Pro WiFi Motherboard
  • PSU: MSI MPG 850W
  • BULK DRIVE: Crucial BX500 2TB 2.5" SSD, CT2000BX500SSD1

so I bought this refurbished gpu and since I’ve had it, it has shut my system down intermittently when playing games for a short amount of time. My most recent shut down which was on 3Dmark I was able to record so I’ll attach it to this thread to try and show what’s happening.

Well your pretty much have your answer 🙂 If you introduced new GPU and your system started to behave like that you have yourself a faulty GPU.

Only other option would be PSU, but if it worked previously there's only a slight chance that it just happened to go haywire at exactly same moment.

What kind of GPU did you use before?

GPU : RTX 3070 Gaming X TRIO | CPU : Ryzen 5 7600 \ COOLER : Deepcool AK620 | MOBO : ASUS TUF Gaming B650 Plus | RAM : Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 16GBx2 6200 MHz \ Storage : Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2 1TB \ PSU : Corsair TX750M | CASE : Be Quite! Pure Base 500DX Black

what was the nature of the gpus refurbishment? if it was just a clean up then ok, but plenty of cards get a refurb(fix!) and then aint actually working fully.

But as mentioned if this is only now happening since your new gpu is installed it can only be that or the psu

I bought the psu new with the gpu so I’m hoping the psu was alright 😅 I had a ASUS GeForce GTX 1660 Phoenix OC 6GB with a 550watt psu.

Well things to do here are :

1. Test that GPU in a different system.

2. Test different GPU in your system.

Extra thing which i dont think is the reason but easy and quick to try :

3. Try running two seperates 8pin power cables from your PSU, instead of one with pigtail ( which i assume you use) . There;s slight chance that one cable is not enough to feed your GPU with sufficient power.

I did ask this before purchase and I believe it was a clean up as they said that it was a demo gpu in one of their show rooms but I suppose it wouldn’t be the first time a retailer has bent the truth for a sale 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yeah I have the separate 8 pins for the GPU and I’ll have to try and do steps 1 & 2 this weekend. Thank you for your help 😊
