Super Weird Problem

MikeCairns

I will seriously PayPal somebody money if they can help me out. I am so lost. Build a new system, threw it together. No issues, booted up windows 10 fresh install from a windows 10 usb key, everything was fine but once I get into Windows I notice there is no internet. I figure, drivers. Damn but it's all good, been here before. Popped in a USB key into my laptop, downloaded drivers from the site for the board, popped it into new system and unzipped them, everything is peachy. Run the setups but literally nothing is running, they are all blocked by compatibility or some other issues. I contact Asus and they tell me the board is defective so I RMA it. Get a brand new, different board, one from Gigabyte, same exact issue after replacing everything over to the new board. I can't even boot off a SATA drive I had lying around and I don't know what the flying f is going on here.

I have never seen this before and technically the generic drivers should run the ethernet cards regardless of drivers at this point since these boards are pretty standard. I even tried updating with a new iso from Microsoft Windows but still, it just won't run.

I flashed both boards and updated BIOS on them which didn't change anything, I do not have a bench or a extra board lying around to swap out parts or I would have done that already... Any help would be greatly appreciated and I'll toss some cash your way if I can get this working.

You have made a few threads about this but haven't given full system specs yet.

The old SATA drive, how old is it? You might have to change some BIOS settings to boot off of it.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

The SATA isn't too old, it was in my old system, it's a nand 1tb, it shows in the BIOS but isn't bootable from.

In your bios, go to "settings" then "IO power". Make sure ethernet is enabled.

In the boot menu, change CSM support to enabled. Can you boot off the old Sata drive now?

Alright. Where is IO settings and it should already be enabled. Also, CSM is on but the drive isn't bootable.

The ethernet controller isn't something I can turn off or on. It's just automatically turned on in BIOS.

Let's go one problem at a time. Can you still boot off the SN850x?

Not anymore. After the first time it boots off fresh install it stops being bootable.

Yes.

Were any drives other than the m.2 and USB plugged in when you installed Windows? Looks like you're missing the boot partition. Plug your USB back in, boot from it like you're going to install windows. Can I see what the drive looks like to Windows? When you tell it where to install you'll be able to see the drive and all your partitions on it.

Also, when I installed I only had the M.2 and the USB plugged in. Here is a pic of the SATA drive in the Windows installer.

The M.2 just says unallocated space but I removed it last night to see if that was causing issues.

Also, I bought a fresh usb stick and threw the media creation tool on it but it won't boot. Just goes to a light blue screen and everytime I hit enter the BIOS logo shows up and then it eventually shuts down. Really odd...

If it was removed, it wouldn't show up in BIOS. How does that Windows screen look with only the m.2 installed?

Clear CMOS. I want any settings changed in BIOS back to default so it's a clean slate.

Also I am able to boot into Windows 10 again, my monitor makes a weird clicking noise but it's a new monitor so that is probably just the display signal changing.

How should I clear the CMOS on one of these boards? I know the ROG had a clear CMOS button but I don't see one for this. Just take the battery out like old boards?
