Yeah, the BIOS will restart, and actually it will likely restart a couple times, then you can go back in the BIOS, and reset anything you need to. Head's up, updating the BIOS will generally wipe your settings. So you can reconfigure anything you need to, save your settings, and exit.  Power off if you want to, or install the OS whenever you are ready.

Hello. I just finished my first build. I am about to update the BIOS using the USB drive method. I HAVE NOT, however, installed my OS (Windows 11) yet. Most guides about how to update the BIOS indicate that it will "restart" when the update is complete... But can this happen since I haven't installed my OS yet? In other words, will a BIOS update work properly and restart properly without the presence of the OS yet?

well yes, it just means the computer will go from an on state to an off state to back on again. After your bios update you'll go back into your bios and go into M flash mode (if your on an MSI mobo) should be something similar for other mobos

Honestly I would say it's best practice to update the BIOS from the BIOS (outside or not in the OS) anyways. So the OS really doesn't matter.  Just my opinion.
