Doesn't matter which USB port you use if you're doing it through the BIOS. The only time it matters is when you're using BIOS flashback, which that board does not support.

There are two things I can think of that could possibly be the issue:

  1. The flash drive isn't formatted correctly. The drive needs to be formatted in FAT32 in order for the BIOS to detect it most of the time.
  2. The board is just picky with flash drives. Try using a different drive and see if you have better luck with this (usually, the older/slower the drive is the better)

hello all, I have an MSI x370 gaming pro carbon that I'm trying to update the BIOS on (still using the production build Version 2017) but the M-Flash can not find my USB. can someone help me figure out which USB slot I'm supposed to be plugging into? the User guide doesn't specify which slot to use.

for this specific board, it doesnt really matter which port to put it in. it is generally preferable to use the rear usb directly on the motherboard for this, so that you dont have an issue with the extension.

the problem likely lies in either a dead usb stick, or the bios file was not prepared properly on the drive. id look back at the instructions and make sure everything is right. then i would use another usb stick

This is good to know, thank you, I will try a new driver that's formatted in FAT32. Thank you.
