Hey,

I am thinking about getting an MXL990 or AT2020 microphone but they are both XLR.

So my question is, what audio interface would you recommend knowing that I have a limited budget.

I hope to spend less than £40 if possible.

Thanks in advance

EDIT: I will be buying from Amazon UK or http://www.thomann.de/gb/

A suggestion would be the USB version of both mics, but that'll limit you to PC only, and I also made the decision to go XLR.

Recommended is a proper audio interface like the Scarlett 2i2 or the M-Audio Fast Track, but something like a Behringer Xenyx 302 USB will work as well for cheap, although you're obviously getting what you paid for.

In a different formfactor, the Blue Icicle or similar is also something you should consider.

On that tight budget, though, I would just pick up the USB version of one of those.

that woud be nice but i can't find the USB versions for anywhere near a comparable price (the AT2020 USB is like £60 more expensive  ).

I think that I will go with the behringer becuase I don't have the money and it iwll be less expensive than the USB and I do have the flexibility of XLR

Well, that is to be expected because you are kind of buying a mic with an audio interface integrated, although 60 pounds seems a bit much. the Behringer (or other cheap usb mixers) will, like I said, probably do the job, but with a mediocre-bad pre-amp and analog-digital-converter. But the great thing is, you can upgrade it later on.

When I look at amazon.co.uk, difference to the AT2020 and the AT2020 usb seems about 45 pounds.

Still the same price as the XLR version + the interface and i will have more flexibility
