Hello,

I want to upgrade my sound system.

My use is for gaming mostly, I play quite a lot of games csgo bf34 GTA ... but my main game is TF2 This means that if the upgrade would not be substantial to TF2 there is no reason for me to upgrade.

I wanted to know what my options, the budget is unknown, of course I do not go crazy with the HD800

Option I thought of her

ASUS Xonar Essence STX combination of quality headphones something like Senshiser HD 558 + -

How about a combination?

Is OVERKILL?

Thanks

You can expand why you think I do not need a sound card?

And in this case, which headset [open and comfortable] can offer me?

im going to stand by this till the day i die and im sure ill get hate for this. but im not major audio guy like @Windspeed36 or someone (sorry for mentioning you just using you as a example) but audio quality is just going down and down so spending hundreds of dollars on a pricy card thats going to do little to nothing is pointless, just stick to on board. as for a head set i dont know sadly sorry

First of all thanks for the help

Everywhere I looked, until now said that the sound card is necessary and opens a new world
Based on what you say sound card will not give me anything?

There are differences between a dedicated sound card and an onboard. Differences, not necessarily better (some even worse). 1 advantage that I can think of is a better 3D HRTF algorithm, but then again onboards nowadays are already at above average level already, and usually got good 3D HRTF. Or you can just use the free Razer surround app anyway.

Some headphones will need extra amping, but it's better to get an external device for that rather than a soundcard.

As for the headphones, the HD 558 is a good pick if you're still considering it - you wont need an amp, they're comfy if you're head isn't too big, and the soundstage is pretty good.

I like my AKG K612 much more than the PC360 I previously had. It's probably my favorite pair of open headphones right now and if I wanted to upgrade I would probably go for the new Hifimans which are like twice the cost.

Edit: Although I still like my modded Fostex more but those have a lot more isolation, bassier, and are heavier so I switch between the two.

Well, there's small USB DAC/amp units varying in price under $100 that would work just as well as any soundcard, minus the buggy drivers. We on'y recommend getting another solution over on board around here if you hear pops/crackles/hiss/etc because the large majority of the time, modern onboard audio is just fine.

558's are not hard to drive - they do not need special amps to make them sound good.

The PC360 is supposedly similar to the HD558, and the 518 has just a bit more bass. I wouldn't recommend the PC 360 unless you can find it under about $180.
