The Outcast, a tale of humble beginnings

SasquatchTV

I live in Texas in the US, all prices mentioned are USD and from the time of purchase not current.

Back in 2014 I had gone through a period of financial hardship the years prior, but being a gamer I finally saved up some money when i started working again and bought an xbox one. With no internet service at my home I was using it at my uncles auto repair shop, literally setup on top of a $8000 snapon toolbox. Playing games in a voice chat party was always interesting when hydraulic lifts and pneumatic impact drivers are being operated 15 feet away from where i was playing destiny or smite.

Around late 2018 i bought an Acer Nitro 5 laptop, my first computer since my old Compaq/HP desktop from 2004 died in 2012, rip Athelon 2ghz single core, 2gb of ddr3, and nvidia 680gtx 512mb vram.

Laptop specs:

i5 7300hq 2.4ghz quad

8gb 2400 ddr4, added another 8gb down the road $56

1050ti 4gb vram

256gb m.2, added a 2tb seagate firecuda hybrid hdd $85

1080p 120hz ips panel display and dual dolbi speakers

Bought an offbrand 27" 60hz monitor for $90 on newegg a few months after buying the laptop for around $750.

Shortly after that, got internet service hooked up at the house and moved the setup there using a $35 plastic folding table from walmart as my desk, and bought some chinese knock off racer style chair from newegg for $97.

In july of 2022 said crappy racer chair finally broke to the point of being unusable and i ordered a secret labs titan evo XL, $650 definitely worth the money, superior build quality and materials and super comfortable while supporting the back.

I had been kicking around different builds on pcpartpicker for about 18 months, i finally decided i had put enough money aside, the new cpus had been released and gpu prices were finally in a good range so i started buying parts here and there throughout october and november 2022 til i had everything i wanted. November 28th 2022 (which is also my birthday) for the first time, with the help of the LTT video "the last guide youll ever need" i built my own pc by myself from parts i had researched and ordered.

Corsair 4000D airflow $105

Seasonic 850w platinum $169

Intel i5 13600k $300

Corsair vengence LPX 16gbx2 5600 cl36 ddr5 $149

Asrock z790 pro RS $209

Crucial P3 plus gen4 1tb and 4tb m.2 $79 and $299

EK basic 360mm aio $109

Asrock phantom gaming oc radeon 6900xt 16gb vram $670

Noctua redux 1800rpm fan $23 for rear exhaust, all other fans in case are intake, including front mount aio fans in pull config.

Hp x32 32" 2k 165hz monitor $249

Still using the offbrand 27" monitor as well and LTT cable ties.

Booted to bios on first try! Despite putting the glass side panel on before powering and not assembling and powering on the desk externally before installing everything in case.

Named the build project outcast because I decided to go with an intel cpu and amd gpu because the price to performance just made sense in a time when everyone seems to be going amd cpu and nvidia gpu because "cost be damned, i want the highest performance possible!" Also I opted for as little rgb as possible in order to spend those savings on more performance oriented things.

The PC is not top of the line everything, but it runs everything i throw at it to my satisfaction, and the gains i saw coming from a laptop was world changing. While playing escape from tarkov, went from getting 45-55fps with drastic dips at 1080p low settings on the laptop, to getting 105-125fps stable at 2k high settings on the new desktop. Not only that, but the pride i get knowing im gaming on something i built myself and the learning experience of actually building it are completely invaluable.

I liked the hp x32 so much i bought a second one, a dual arm wall mount, and a wall mount for my tv near the end December 2022, but was so busy with work or too lazy to install it until the beginning of april 2023. And this is the final battlestation. HyperX Cloud stinger headset, Logitec g502 proteus mouse, and Logitec g910 orion keyboard, with google fiber 1gig connection. Still using the cheapo 27" monitor and walmart folding table as a desk. Lmao

Thanks for reading to the end and checking out my story. Here are some bonus photos of my old 2004 Compaq/HP pc and one of the several Lan parties i attended with friends in someones basement circa 2007. 🙂
