BluRay player intermittent black screen

I recently acquired a used Sony BDP-S1100 from my grandparents after my old Dynex player finally kicked the bucket. I know used DVD/BD players lead to a lot of horror stories, but this one was barely used and I wanted that player so I could control it with the same remote as my circa-2010 Sony Bravia HDTV. Unfortunately the screen tends to briefly go black every 15 seconds or so if you don't have a disc playing, which is slightly inconvenient when you want to stream rather than use a disc.

Fast forward to a few days later and I've tested all the settings on the TV itself, disabled HDMI-CEC, messed with most of the settings on the BD player that I thought might be causing this (24p mode, HDMI Deep Colour, etc.) and tried several high-speed HDMI cables but still haven't fixed the issue. Are any other options worth changing?
