PC not performing to expectations

Hello! Recently I had switched my GPUs - from a RX 580 8GB to a RX 6700XT 12GB and was hoping for a performance boost. Unfortunately I was met with varying degrees of performance. In games like ETS2 and PUBG - my fps on high settings was better but not as good as I was expecting it to be, but on CSGO - my fps has tanked massively from getting 200-300 on my old card to not getting over 200 consistently..not to mention GPU usage being at max while CPU usage not being over 25% even...Now one thing probably that could be the cause of such minimal performance might be my Ryzen 5 2600 CPU dragging it down - and if it is the biggest cause of such a drop in performance then thats fine since I was planning on getting a new CPU anyways. Simply put I have a few questions that would be nice if answered:
1. Is the CPU really the cause of my performance issues?
2. Will my B350 chipset support a upgrade to a Ryzen 5 5600X?

3. Any other things that could make my PC not perform as well - any ideas welcomed!

 

PC specs:

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600

GPU: PowerColor RX 6700XT HellHound

RAM: G.Skill Aegis 16GB - 2x8 @ 3200MHz

MOBO: ASRock AB350 Gaming K4

SSD: Samsung EVO 970 NVMe 500GB

PSU: Thermaltake TR2 700W

Motherboard doesn't seem to support the 5xxx series AMD chips...

Your 2600 isn't all that great but it shouldn't TANK your performance.  Did you DDU your drivers and reinstall fresh?

Latest chipset drivers downloaded from AMD?

 

Your board does support the 5600X, but a 5600 non-X is a better choice.

I did DDU the drivers and even reinstalled windows recently. Though after checking closer to the BIOS options it does say that there is a update that can support Vermeer CPUs - which is the one Im looking to upgrade to....screenshot provided here

Dont have the latest bios since im slightly afraid of breaking something. What i mean by that is that there are a few warnings on the newer BIOS versions saying that they dont recommend me updating my bios with 1xxx and 2xxx series cpus. Though if its just a simple warning then I could update it. As for the chipset drivers - i had downloaded the newest ones provided on the mobo's website. Screnshot provided of the warnings im mentioning. Also about the Non-X being a better choice - the other choice i have for it is a 5600G...would that be better perhaps?

Yes, bios ver 7.40 works with those cpu's

Are you by any chance playing at 1080p?

Interesting.  Curious why they haven't updated the CPU Support List as well.  Good to know.

Yes I am. Have a 144Hz monitor and simply want a system that can run the most popular FPS games at high frame rates. Or atleast let them run with frame rates that a system like mine should be dishing out. Also is it safe to update to that version of bios? Since there are a few warnings in the previous versions about updating it with a 1xxx or 2xxx series cpus.

Yeah - got a bit confused also at first. But is it safe to update the bios to that version while using my 2xxx series chip?

Yes, it's safe.  Done it a few times in the past where you have a CPU but need to update BIOS to get a new CPU.  9900K on z370 for example, was a later BIOOS update when I had my 8700K in.

 

I'd update, then drop in a 5600.

Even despite the warnings they give with versions starting for 6.0? Just making absolutely sure haha. But if its safe then I might aswell do it today and order the CPU

Flash the Bios to the latest. But read the descriptions, for that board there are Bios versions that are a mandatory step before a newer version so you just can't flash the latest.

 

Also, the chipset drivers on the motherboard page are severely outdated. There's a reason I mentioned "downloaded from AMD"!.

Just one be safe about one thing - its safe to do it with my 2xxx series CPU even despite there being warnings of ASRock not recommending and update with anything that isnt a 3xxx series CPU?

Nah, stupidities. They dropped support for the Pre-Ryzen AM4 CPU-s and some Athlon APU-s.

A better CPU (5600/5600X) would fair much better at 1080P, but juding by your post you already know that. 

A workaround could be to get a high refreshrate 1440p display to eleviate the CPU bottleneck a bit. But since Zen 3 CPU's are practicly dirt cheap right now that would also be my go to.
